Dried African Bird's Eye (Rocket pepper or Piri Piri) peppers are peppery little peppers of modest heat. They rate between 165,000-190,000 Scoville Units. They are a relative of the tabasco pepper. Many wild chiles have "bird" in their name and it can be difficult to distinguish between them and they are of the four species: Capsicum annuum, Capsicum baccutum, Capsicum chinense, and Capsicum frutescens. African Birdseye is of Capiscum frutescens and is thought to be the hottest pepper outside of the species Capsicum chinense. Our dried African Bird's Eye chile peppers are processed from fresh grown peppers direct from Uganda.
African Bird’s Eye Chiles are typically between 1/2" and 1" in length and are elongated. The chile is green in color when not ripe and then ripens to a bright red.
This is one of our favorite peppers. It is very versatile and adds great flavor and heat to any dish. Crush some and sprinkle on your pizza! African Bird's Eye peppers are known in the northeast USA as rocket chiles and are used in salsas and dishes.
